Clinic for General and Visceral Surgery

The Clinic for General and Visceral Surgery at the Diakonissen-Stiftungs-Krankenhaus Speyer has a long tradition. At our clinic the operative treatment of abdominal organs i.e. the entire digestive tract including the oesophagus, the pancreas, the stomach, the small and large intestine, the rectum, the liver and the spleen, is performed by the field of general and visceral surgery (abdominal surgery).

Furthermore, surgery of the thyroid and the parathyroid gland as well as the treatment of inguinal, incisional and diaphragmatic hernias are also included in this medical field. A large majority of the operations on these organs are conducted by means of minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Advanced treatment methods are applied during the treatment of colonopathies and diseases of the rectum.

The Clinic for General and Visceral Surgery was recognised and certified as a centre of competence for minimally invasive medicine (MIC) by the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Minimal-Invasive Chirurgie (CAMIC)” and the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV).

Certified Continence Counselling Center
This department is a part of the Continence and Pelvic Floor Center Kurpfalz as well as being a certified counselling center of the German Continence Society.

The clinic is the primary regional treatment center where a large variety of operative procedures are carried out in various fields of oncological surgery.
